Often I’ll become transfixed by a detail, riff on a pattern or concept that might be specifically inspired by something tangible from nature, but I get completely carried away in the process and in all honesty I often overdo things a little.
I started with a sketch that quite quickly brought to mind underwater structures and so I specifically researched the elements I wanted to use for this. I landed upon the Giant Rainbow Lobster quite quickly for its beautiful texture and colour. It served as a great inspiration for much of the general look, but the shapes and forms remained pretty abstract and independent of the lobster influence. The more jellyfish-like textures at the top simply evolved from a desire to add a contrast of colour and feel, from the solid to the more ethereal.
