Aesthetic pleasure and beauty are things I actively pursue, but not often in the conventional places. Rather than exploring the obvious beauty of a flower, more often I’ll become fixated on the hairs and patterning on something like a moth or the interlocking shapes of a skeleton. Usually I’ll find beauty in most forms of nature and often the more alien the better.
This design started as a sketch that more closely resembled conventional looking branch structures. I’d been thinking about insects and specifically moths, so ended up evolving a covering of lighter hair/fur like textures. I ended up adding a couple of studied details observed directly from researched moths, once I’d committed to the idea that this was to be the general aesthetic. Some of the branch structures started to evolve a translucent quality, again quite like the body of insects, but also towards a more tree sap or dark amber like element. This is another example where my work seems to merge animal and plant life together.
