The hidden worlds of anatomy and nature, often at a macro level, have always called to me as fertile landscapes of discovery. New colour combinations, textures and forms, alien yet completely natural macro terrain.
With insect and specifically fly textures as a source of inspiration, the sketch for this piece took on a strange alien life form of its own. I love to play with tiny textures and patterns in pieces so that zooming in is rewarded, so spent a good amount of time detailing this piece. Although not a direct copy of any specific insect, the general essence and look is arranged around the forms that are fundamentally abstract in nature. The shapes began to arrange into something that felt like a gathering of alien entities and so the orb is a focal point for their interest.
